The village of Margarites is south east from Rethymnon town in the centre of the island of Crete and  is well known for its pottery and attracts many visitors in the busy season. 

The tradition of pottery goes back many generations in this village it also has some extraordinary architecture and lovely narrow winding streets is well worth exploring. There are also some Venetian doorways, Byzantine churches and plenty of traditional taverns and cafés to relax in and perhaps to try a Greek coffee. Margarites village also has some essential shops such as mini markets, taverns and a bakery.

The village of Perama which is approximately 5 km away, has bigger supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, butcher and a fishmonger. The nearest beaches are the north coast beaches of Geropotamos, Panormos and Spilies Beach.

If you are looking for privileges that only a big city can offer, then Rethymno town is 24 km away and offers unique facilities and a wide variety of entertainment.

Finally, there are also opportunities for guests to explore surrounding areas such as historical monastery of Arkadi, Ancient Eleftherna and its museum, Melidoni or Zoniana Caves and Anogia village.

Furthermore due to the village location and the topography of the area, there are many beautiful hiking paths (E4 paths start from Margarites village and reach up to Ancient Eleftherna)
